Few gemstones are named for the only country in which they are found. Tanzanite is, and that fact shapes how we think about it: not simply as a product to be dug up and sold, but as a national asset whose value can be captured at home or given away, depending on how it is handled.

Where the value is created

A rough tanzanite crystal leaves the ground with only a fraction of its final value. The rest is added by sorting, grading, cutting, polishing, certification, branding and the relationships that put a finished stone in front of a serious international buyer. Historically much of that chain has happened outside Tanzania. Every step that moves back within the country keeps more of the value, more of the skills and more of the employment at home.
